Step into the exciting world of sailing with ASA 101! This foundational course teaches you everything from reading the wind to hoisting sails and steering with confidence. Under expert instruction, you’ll learn the core skills that unlock the freedom of the open water. ASA 101 is more than just lessons—it’s the most important sailing class you’ll take and it’s your invitation to embrace adventure and make sailing a part of your life.

 

📘 Pre-Class Preparation

Before the course begins, students are required to complete reading and homework assignments from the official Sailing Made Easy textbook. This material lays the foundation for both your practical training and the ASA 101 written exam.

🗓️ Course Schedule

  • Duration: 2 full days (Saturday & Sunday)

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily

  • Location: San Diego Bay, aboard a Capri 22

  • Class Size: Maximum 4 students per instructor

Each day begins with a short classroom session, followed by approximately 80% of the class spent on the water, learning by doing.

⛵What You’ll Learn

  • Sailing terminology and basic seamanship

  • Points of sail, sail trim, and helm control

  • Tacking, jibing, and docking

  • Rules of the road

  • Safety procedures and basic navigation

📝 Exams & Certification

  • Written Exam: Morning of Day 2

  • Practical Exam: Conducted on the water throughout Day 2

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive ASA 101 certification, allowing them to skipper a Capri 22 or similar keelboat up to 25 feet.
