Exciting construction is now underway for the new Harbor Island West Marina. Dock removal and installation work has begun, followed soon by the demolition and construction of the new buildings.

The 100, 200 and 400 east have all been cleared out and piling removal is currently underway. The east side of the 400 dock will serve as the launch site for the new docks so part of that parking lot has been blocked off for the delivery of materials and a large crane that is floating the new docks.

For dock access, please note these important changes effective immediately: Gate 2 provides access to the 400 dock, Gate 3 is closed, and Gate 4 provides access to the 500 docks as well as all docks to the east. The connecting pier between the 400 and 500 docks has been removed to allow the removal and installation of the new docks. This means members accessing the 500 dock (boats 22’-35’) will use Gate 4.

Gate 2 (servicing boats 38’ and above) access is normal aside from a pathway around the construction zone leading to the gate.

Gate 4 (servicing boats 22’-35’ as well as the 51’) is accessible by a sidewalk on the far east side of the parking lot (next to the Hilton).

Reminder that the on-site deli is closed during construction. As an excellent nearby alternative, we highly recommend Papanani’s Deli located right at Safe Harbor Cabrillo Isle Marina (1450 Harbor Island Dr). It’s a great spot for hot and cold sandwiches, salads, breakfast items, and more. The Harbor Island Fuel Dock is also available for water and other grab and go items.

Parking is now impacted and the marina’s weekend parking policy is in effect. This policy allows for one car per boat, regardless of the boat size. This policy is for all marina tenants and Harbor Sailboats members. Members who are sailing that day will have their name on a list with the parking attendant at the front of the lot. Parking spaces are first come first served and will be full on a busy summer weekend – arrive early.

Overflow parking is ample along Harbor Island. The Harbor Island Park (the grass park on the bay side when driving down the island) is open to the public free of charge. Additionally, a paid parking lot (reasonably priced at around $10 a day) is located at the entrance of the island, across from the Sheraton hotel. We recommend the car that is parking in the marina’s lot “shuttle” their guest from the lot back to Harbor Sailboats.

As many of you have already seen and heard, our home, Harbor Island West Marina, has begun a major redevelopemnt. Built in 1969, this marina has been our home since its very beginning, and together we’ve shared over five decades of sailing adventures. Now, we’re about to see it transformed into a state-of-the-art waterfront property designed for the next generation of boaters, with more amenities than ever before. The new marina will boast 620 slips ranging from 20’–140’, resort-style pool and spa, new docks, a fitness center, EV charging, and so much more. To say the Harbor Sailboats team is excited would be an understatement.

We’re especially excited about some of the incredible new features coming to Harbor Sailboats — from a massive waterfront promenade to a beautiful lounge where members can relax. Our new docks will offer improved fleet layout, wide slips, and most importantly – we’ll be introducing highly demanded catamaran rentals and lessons!

This redevelopment is a minimum 18-month project, and we want to assure you that Harbor Sailboats will remain open and fully operational throughout the process with little impact on member activities. We’ve been through plenty of changes together over the years, and this will be no different. Your access to sailing, instruction, and our team will continue uninterrupted, nearly the same as it is now.

Here’s what to expect:

During construction, we’ll be working out of a temporary office on the west side of the parking lot. This will allow us to serve you as always, just from a slightly different spot. Our office will be easy to find, just look for the signage, flags, and familiar faces. Restrooms and showers will also be in this area and accessible the same way as now.

The docks where the fleet is moored are scheduled for one of that last phases of the redevelopment. For most of the project, your sailing experience will remain just as it is today. When the time comes, we’ll move into brand-new slips and make our home for another 50 years!

The on-site deli will be closed during renovations but we encourage you to stop at the two other delis on the island at Marina Cortez or Cabrillo Isle, both of which are on the way to the club. Ice can be obtained from the fuel dock or the above mentioned delis. Parking will remain free of charge and available to members during construction.

We’re proud to be part of this historic transition for the marina, just as we were proud to be here from its first day in 1969. It’s a rare opportunity to watch our waterfront evolve, and we’ll keep you updated every step of the way. In the meantime, please follow along and review renderings of the new marina.
